We speak to Shawn Wehsling, an architect of the Durban concert ” Muso’s Against Monsanto – Songs for Seeds”
A FREE event in support of the ‘Durban March against Monsanto’ (seehttps://www.facebook.com/events/242496509230336/) :
Musos are also being force fed gm foods and have the voice to draw attention to the lies presented by bio-tech. This whole march is the beginning of a tirade of resistance to corporate tyranny, and as such aims to do nothing more than raise awareness for the people that do not even know what they are eating and how its affecting the ecosystems of the planet
whats to look forward to?
floor 1: presentations and talks from bio-safety groups, movies, poets corner, chill DJs
floor 2: Bands and poets, escalating into DJs
what should we bring?
SW: Joburg seems to be adopting the red-shirt approach, tho dress up will be commended, bring banners, flyers etc downloaded from NO GMO South Africa page, make your own placards – there is a paint party happening on saturday 18th at ‘101 on pine’, 11am, come meet organizers and make placards n banners
*entertainers -jugglers, dancers, etc are please invited to help out and draw attention in the march
why should anyone attend?
SW: nobody else is going to protect us from corporate profiteering. GMO is advertised as a great idea to feed starving africa, when the truth is simply a measure of patenting ordinary food and annexing the entire food industry to a corporate brand, they will force us to buy from them every time. corrupt government has already been bought out and now its up to us to rise up against this… the world is with us
how do musicians think they can change the world anyways?
SW: like us they have voices, they are just better experienced at using theirs, and they know people listen to them more than they listen to the raving conspiracy theorists. This is no longer conspiracy theory and more like conspiracy fact. corporates do not do things because they care, they need to create profit and will do anything for that./ Monsanto has taken this beyond the limits and since no one is checking them, they must be cut down by the people
the significance of attending both the march and the concert?
SW: attending the march shows your true support of this urgent matter, whilst ditching the march and attending the concert shows an apathy that may get future generations in a heap of trouble! either way, punters will have to listen to boring short speeches in between bands and the message will get to them
